Developing and Nurturing Creativity
This month's free resource is a selection from the
10 Demandments of Creativity: Parents
Edition, a book that can help any
parent, teacher, or administrator develop the creative nature of his/her child
or students. This book started as a discussion about the “idea” of creativity
between Dave Jones and his co-author and fellow teacher, Denis Berkson. Their
experiences as teachers in the arts showed them that nurturing creativity in
kids has lifelong and unexpected benefits for children, especially as they
mature into adults.
This selection focuses on allowing for creative space (
Room to Roam). In the book, please make sure to check out the relationship
web between teachers, parents, administrators and kids, because all schools, even those hampered by NCLB and extensive testing, can
still be creative havens.
You can order the book from www.creativecrusader.com (or call 847-730-9838 for multiple copies).

and special education students, is known for his creative and innovative
teaching style. His physical education curriculum draws heavily from both a
collaborative/cooperative aspect and artistic areas of dance and theater. He has been the recipient of a variety of teaching and
community awards and recognitions, including, in 2002, both a Hometown Hero
award for Glenview, IL and a Golden Apple Award for Excellence in Teaching from
the Golden Apple Foundation in Chicago. From the American Heart Association
there have been numerous awards including the Bynum Lifetime Achievement Award
(that he believes he is much too young to have received!). The Chicago Botanic Garden, The Japanese Chicago Chamber of
Commerce Foundation and Newsweek have recognized and supported the Pleasant
Ridge School Gardens, developed under his guidance.
