
At the age of eight, Jeanette Hachmeister, lost her hearing for about six months. She recalls that her grades suffered, and that her teachers did not understand her challenges. Today Jeanette is a 2009 Golden Apple Fellow and pre-K-Kindergarten Learning Center teacher at Child’s Voice School in Wood Dale, Illinois. Jeanette is a graduate of LawrenceUniversity in Child Development with a Masters in Education from Smith College/Clarke School for the Deaf. She holds an International A.G. Bell Certificate, and is a Learning and Listening Specialist in Auditory Verbal Education (LSLS AVEd). Child's Voice is a national award-winning oral option school founded in February 1996, focusing on listening and spoken language for children who are deaf or hard of hearing. It serves children in Chicago and its suburbs. Jeanette and her students talk and sing all day long.
