Stanley C. Golder Community Service Award

Golden Apple Foundation annually presents the Stanley C. Golder Community Service Award to an individual who has made significant contributions to education and has been influential in advancing Golden Apple’s guiding conviction that “All Children Deserve Excellent Teachers.”

The Award honors the memory of Stanley C. Golder, a Golden Apple founder and board member whose energy, creativity and commitment to the Golden Apple mission of advancing the teaching profession set the highest standard for dedication and accomplishment.

The Golder Award has been presented each year since 2002 as follows:
  • 2008 — Michael Milkie, founder and superintendent, Noble Street Charter School
  • 2007 — Ted Oppenheimer, president of the Oppenheimer Family Foundation
  • 2006 — Michael W. Scott, Chicago School Board president.
  • 2005 — Beverly E. Shaw, National-Louis University trustee and founder of Good News Reading Program
  • 2004 — William J. McCarter, Golden Apple board director, and president emeritus and trustee of Window to the World Communications, Inc.
  • 2003 — John Mabie, Golden Apple board director and chairman of Mid-Continent Capital, LLC
  • 2002 — Martin J. (Mike) Koldyke, Golden Apple founder and chairman emeritus, and retired chairman of Frontenac Company

Prior to the establishment of The Golder Award, a Golden Apple Community Service Award was presented to the following individuals:
  • 2001 – Dan Cronin, Illinois State Senator
  • 2000 – Richard M. Daley, Mayor of Chicago
  • 1999 — Stanley Golder, founding partner of Golder, Thoma, Cressy, Rauner Inc., a private equity investment firm; and Golden Apple board member
  • 1998 — Donald Perkins, chairman emeritus of Jewel-Osco and Golden Apple board member
  • 1997 — Arnold Weber, president emeritus of Northwestern University and Golden Apple board member
  • 1996 — Richard and Barbara Franke, chairman of The John Nuveen Company and Golden Apple board directors
