For over 20 years, Golden Apple has worked to enhance science instruction in schools throughout northern Illinois. With partners like the Museum of Science and Industry, Big Shoulders Fund, Benedictine University, Chicago Public Schools, Shedd Aquarium, Adler Planetarium and the University of Chicago, Golden Apple has established inquiry science workshops that have become the foundation for a number of other highly regarded programs.
The Big Shoulders Fund commissioned Golden Apple to create a series of summer workshops on Inquiry Teaching, including Inquiry Science, Advanced Inquiry Science, Inquiry Math and Inquiry Literacy, that run every year in July and are facilitated by Golden Apple Award-winning teachers. Teachers in Big Shoulders schools interested in participating in the 2010 workshop, should contact Big Shoulders.
The science workshop housed at Benedictine University formed the basis for the university’s Master of Science in Science Content and Process (M.S.S.C.P.) program and is the first requirement in that course of study. Partners include Morton Arboretum, Brookfield Zoo, Fermilab and the DuPage County Forest Preserve District. Teachers interested in participating in the Benedictine University Inquiry Science Workshop or the full Master’s program, should contact the university.
Additionally, Inquiry Science, provided by Golden Apple’s science faculty has been a mainstay of the Golden Apple Scholars of Illinois Program, including a government funded program in partnership with the Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy (IMSA) to prepare future science teachers.
Additional information on and resources from Golden Apple’s science workshops is available on the Partners in Inquiry website.
