Finding New and Better Ways to Teach from Peers and Experts

Golden Apple offers professional development workshops and seminars to teachers at all stages of their career. The programs are presented by Golden Apple Award-winning teachers and other experts in their fields, providing innovative approaches to classroom instruction.

Annual summer offerings include the Science Workshop, which introduces inquiry science techniques to elementary school teachers; the Storytelling Workshop, where teachers learn to incorporate storytelling in their lesson planning; and CORE, the Center for Ongoing Renewal and Enrichment, where Golden Apple Scholars and their colleagues take part in seminars and reflective activities to enrich their professional lives as teachers.

Special summer seminars have included week-long programs on incorporating the arts into the classroom, digital storytelling, polar science and climate studies, and the culture and history of the Native Peoples of the Mississippi Valley.

Professional development programs also include the Teaching Excellence Network, an online comunity for teachers to engage in thoughtful discussion with peers.

In addition, Golden Apple is planning a Teaching Excellence Center to provide transformative professional seminars, allowing teachers to work together and grow to improve teaching and student performance at their schools.
