Teaching Excellence Center
A Physical Space for Professional Development and School Improvement
Golden Apple is working to create a Teaching Excellence Center (TEC) that will provide transformative professional seminars, allowing teachers to work together to improve their teaching and student achievement at their schools.
With special attention to teachers at high-poverty and low-scoring schools,
the Center will provide a physical space for workshops and forums focused on cadres of teachers from individual schools of need.
The Teaching Excellence Center will provide a best-practices, research-based approach to professional development and inspire teachers to work together to solve educational problems at their schools.
Planning is underway in 2008 to secure a site in the Chicago area. Pilot TEC professional-development seminars were presented in the summer including week-long programs on incorporating the arts into the classroom, digital storytelling, polar science and climate studies, and the culture and history of the Native Peoples of the Mississippi Valley.
