Intensive summer learning on what it means to be a great teacher
Summer Institute is an integral part of the Golden Apple Scholars of Illinois program. Scholars take part in four consecutive Summer Institutes and receive a $2,000 stipend for each summer of the Institute.During the first two summers, Scholars spend five weeks in a residential program at DePaul University. This experience offers exposure to many theories of learning styles and provides reflection on classroom experiences in a supportive atmosphere. Scholars work in Chicago schools during the day and take classes in the afternoon and evening on various aspects of teaching.
During their third summer, Scholars design their own learning experiences from an array of options. The fourth Summer Institute is a four-week residential program at Elmhurst College that provides strong preparation for the student-teaching experience.
