Letter of Support
Each year, the Golden Apple Foundation selects 10 teachers to receive the Golden Apple Award. Honorees are celebrated as exemplary models of the best in the teaching profession. Recipients are inducted into the Golden Apple Academy of Educators; recognized on an hour-long Awards ceremony on WTTW/Channel 11; receive a cash award of $5,000 and a paid spring quarter sabbatical at Northwestern University in Evanston.
All letters will be kept confidential. The letter must not include the applicants name, the applicants school or district, or any other names that would allow the applicant to be identified by individuals reading the application.
The teacher's application will not be considered complete until recommenders have submitted the letter of recommendation. We suggest using the word applicant when refering to your teacher.
RECOMMENDER: The educator who asked you to submit a letter of support for them is applying for the Golden Apple Award for Excellence in Teaching. This candidate has requested a letter of recommendation from you. It would be very helpful if you submit your letter as soon as possible. Please include how well you know the candidate, in what capacity, and how the candidate would contribute to the Golden Apple Foundation and its programs. Golden Apple values your candid appraisal of the candidate's impact on students, expectations for learning, how he/she establishes a culture for learning, and what positive contributions the teacher has made on the greater school community. Evidence of going beyond expectations and rising to challenges are helpful in assessing candidates for the award.
