The Golden Apple STEM Institute introduces elementary school teachers to an inquiry-based instructional approach through student-focused lessons and engaging intensive summer professional development courses. STEM Institute teachers receive in-school coaching throughout the academic year and a three-part series of follow-up sessions designed to reinforce teaching strategies learned during the summer courses.
Taught by Golden Apple award-winning teachers, STEM Institute summer programs focus on the Next Generation Science Standards and incorporate the Common Core Standards in ELA and math, for an inspiring and practical grounding in creating effective STEM programming at schools.
Teachers receive a wealth of activities, all NGSS and CCSS aligned, guidance in using Understanding by Design to create powerful lessons for their students, and a suite of classroom management and questioning strategies that can be used in the classroom.
STEM Institute requires a two-year partnership between a school and Golden Apple. STEM Institute teachers receive 100 hours of high quality STEM professional development over the course of those two years.
The Golden Apple STEM Institute is a public/private partnership, in which individual qualifying schools, networks, or school districts contribute financially for participation in the program.
