Communities We Serve
The Golden Apple Foundation is expanding the pipeline of well-prepared teachers in Illinois, Michigan, and New Mexico and has long-term plans to expand into other geographies. With the data to substantiate our results, we recruit, support, and retain excellent educators, especially in schools of need, through the following programs:
Golden Apple Scholars Program (Illinois, Michigan, New Mexico)
Scholar Institutes: Intensive residential paid professional development from award-winning experienced teachers each summer
Hands-On Experiences: Opportunities to experience teaching and leading in schools in their community
Undergraduate Supports: Academic, social, and emotional support during the school year
Placement Supports: Assistance to find the right-fit teaching position post-graduation
Mentoring: In-person and individualized mentoring during their early years of teaching by high quality experienced teachers
Golden Apple Accelerators Program (Illinois)
Expedited Licensure: Traditional teaching license within 15 months
One-Year Residency: Teaching in a partner school district with teacher shortages with support from a classroom mentor teacher
Financial Support: Up to $25,000 for education expenses
University Coursework and Credit: earned at a partner university
Mentoring: In-person and individualized mentoring from award-winning teachers during their early years of teaching by high quality experienced teachers
